Vol-Kane-O: How could the AFL approve that Gold Coast jumper?
Kane Cornes thought his eyes were playing tricks on him during Thursday’s Brisbane v Gold Coast AAMI Community Series clash.
While Brisbane wore their traditional uniform in the 126-101 win, Gold Coast suited up in their training guernsey, which is primarily white with ‘SUNS’ written in red across the chest.
That jumper with its red numbers, matched with red shorts and red socks, looked awfully like a Sydney kit to Cornes, particularly their red V heritage guernsey.
Cornes couldn’t understand how the AFL would approve such a kit for the Suns, given its similarities to the Swans.
He delivered a ‘Vol-Kane-O’ on the topic, and his SEN Fireball co-host David King also weighed in on the kit.

Cornes: “As you know, I’ve had a segment called ‘Vol-Kane-O’… watching the game last night, I thought, ‘There you go, that’s a Vol-Kane-O’,
“It was the game between Brisbane and Gold Coast. I turned the TV on, and I thought my mind was playing tricks on me, because I'd just watched Sydney play… then I turned this on, and I swore that was Sydney running around against Brisbane.
“What were they wearing?
“I'm flat, I haven't thought of this just before Greg Swann came on and asked Swanny, although I'm not sure uniform's his portfolio, but how can the AFL approve that kit for Gold Coast? It's Sydney's kit!”
King: “It did look strange.”
Cornes: “That is Sydney's exact kit.”
King: “No, I hear what you're saying.”
Cornes: “I was so confused watching. I thought this isn't Gold Coast. It was playing mind games with me.
“If I were Sydney, I would be a bit unhappy that the AFL has ticked off that as an appropriate uniform, considering it is the exact copy of theirs.”
King: “I don't get too consumed by them as they're opposing, as long as they are stark in nature, I'm fine with it.”
Cornes: “You'd be okay if another team just wore blue and white in the shape of North Melbourne, would you? You'd be happy with that.
“Can you not understand that for fans of their clubs who buy the merch…?”
King: “On February 26, I'm not too concerned. If it were September 26, different story.”
