The best of Bontempelli and Heeney: Whateley praises Crow after thrilling win

Gerard Whateley has celebrated the performance of Adelaide’s __Jordan Dawson __following his match-winning performance.
Following his move to the Crows during the 2021 Trade Period from Sydney, the 29-year-old has been an important part of Adelaide’s rise up the ladder under Matthew Nicks, having been a Malcolm Blight Medallist for the last three years with his ability to play anywhere.
That versatility was evident during Adelaide’s one-point win against the Cats.
Dawson proved to be the difference in their victory, having kicked three goals alongside collecting 22 disposals.
Following Thursday’s showing, Whateley believes the Crows’ captain belongs amongst the best players in the competition.
“He feels like (Marcus) Bontempelli now,” Whateley told SEN’s Crunch Time.
“If there's a problem to be solved, he'll go and solve it and follow me while I'll figure (it out).
“But he's got the (Isaac) Heeney quality when he goes forward. So, the contested mark against two and the thumping goal.
“When he went to the goalscorer at the start of the 3rd quarter, you went, ‘Oh my, he's gonna rip the game apart here’.
“They went to him three times early (and) he kicked one goal.
“Plus, he can go into defence, so he's in our elite players.
“He has joined that company, I think. He's got very distinct qualities because he's got the best (parts) of Bontempelli and I think he's got the best (parts) of Heeney.”
The Crows take on the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium this coming Thursday to kick start Round 14.
The match begins at 7:30pm AEST.
