Cornes: Is there an acceptable margin of defeat for Essendon?
Essendon are far from favourites in Round 4, set to take on a firing Western Bulldogs on Sunday night.
While it’s hardly expected that the Dons will claim a positive result, is there a margin of defeat that Essendon would consider too significant?
With Brad Scott’s job riding on the coming weeks, the Bombers are desperate to show some sort of fight, hoping to play some consistent football in order to bounce back from their horrendous start to 2026.
And if tonight’s contest fails to produce a win, Kane Cornes can’t help but wonder what margin of defeat could spell danger for Scott and the Bombers.

“Is there a margin that is catastrophic on Sunday night, that you can’t come back from?” Cornes told SEN Fireball.
“If it’s a 120-ish… can you salvage that?”
“Anything triple figures is scary, don’t you think?” said Fireball co-host David King.
“Are you concerned about margin? I wonder if the Essendon fans would be accepting of a margin this weekend against a red-hot Western Bulldogs.”
Cornes: “It’s been low 90’s the last two times these teams played, and the Bulldogs are probably better and fresh off the bye.
“Essendon are probably worse.”
In their last two meetings, the Bombers lost by a combined 184 points to the Bulldogs.
They face off tonight at Marvel Stadium, with the first ball-up set for 7:20pm AEST.
