"No excuses": Carlton coach weighs in on woeful training vision

Carlton’s newest part-time assistant and former Eagles coach Adam Simpson has weighed in on the Blues’ woeful pre-season training footage.
Vision captured by Blues fan Heath Buck last week showed a range of Carlton players missing kicks under no pressure while conducting a rather simple drill. Reposted a number of times, Buck can be heard describing the session as “sloppy”.
While the vision was spread without much context as to the club’s training regime, Kane Cornes questioned whether fans must “reassess (their) expectations of the Blues” off the back of the alarming clip.
Simpson, who joined the Blues as a coaching mentor following their poor 2025 season, was present on the day, refusing to give his side an out over the damning vision.
“I got a bit of feedback on that Carlton training clip. They just had a bad day,” Simpson told SEN Whateley.
“I was at that training session; there is no excuses, but it was windy!
“Dealing with that sort of stuff is interesting – how you handle that. Carlton seems to be front and centre with that sort of stuff as well.”
While concerns were rightly drawn following the release of the clip, Simpson does believe that there has been a widespread overreaction, and has urged Carlton fans to stop spreading accessible training vision online.
“It was (an overreaction), but that’s the way it is. When there’s not much news going around the AFL circle…
“What I do notice at Carlton, and it’s none of my business, but people film Carlton training a lot. It’s easy access.
“Even when I was coaching, if I wanted to know how they went, I’d just YouTube Carlton and there were four different angles from supporters!
“I would have not liked that as a coach, the supporters filming training and critiquing it online. It’s great, easy vision for the opposition to look at.
“Blues supporters, put the cameras down! Let them train!”
