AFL player power rankings: Coleman Medallist's top 10 ahead of Round 1

Scott Cummings' Power Rankings have returned for 2026!
Each week, the SEN WA Breakfast co-host will deliver a rolling top 10, ranking the best players within the season adjudicated on a round-by-round basis.
To kick off the 2026 season, Cummings has ranked his top 10 based on his own personal rankings of the best players in the competition, slightly adjusted based on Opening Round.
“There were six players out of the 10 that played on the weekend, so the list will stay the same,” Cummings told SEN WA Breakfast.
10. Charlie Curnow
Last ranking: 10
“The beneficiaries out of Charlie Curnow… he kicked three himself, but the beneficiaries of Joel Amartey (and) Logan McDonald - they are going to benefit just as much as Harry McKay looks like he is going to suffer without him.”
9. Noah Anderson
Last ranking: 9
“Kicked 1.4 on the weekend. If he kicks 4.1, he probably overtakes Petracca as best on. Six clearances, 10 inside 50’s, 12 score involvements.”
8. Zak Butters
Last ranking: 8
“Didn't play.”
7. Hayden Young
Last ranking: 7
“Didn't play.”
6. Errol Gulden
Last ranking: 6
“Wow. What a game. Just watch his kicking, his foot skills are just sublime. I’ve got him staying there at six.”
5. Luke Jackson
Last ranking: 5
“Didn't play.”
4. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
Last ranking: 3
“I’ve moved Nas from three to four.
“I’m worried about where they are playing him. Up until this point in time, he has been a half back flanker that has occasionally rolled through the middle and run from half back. That’s what has made him the player that he is right now.
“He’s played in the middle, didn’t expect to get tagged, and then they put him forward. Your second spot, when you’re not in the middle, shouldn’t be the forward line.”
3. Marcus Bontempelli
Last ranking: 4
“He had three goals, eight score involvements – he is just going to be so important to them.”
2. Sam Darcy
Last ranking: 2
“He helps so much, because he kept Harris Andrews busy. He wasn’t a decoy – he was very, very busy.”
1. Nick Daicos
Last ranking: 1
“Obviously.”
