It's deja vu for St Kilda
With a win against Essendon on Friday night to maintain a four-game win streak, Saints supporters may be feeling a little of déjà vu from last season.
Like they did in 2024, St Kilda has struggled to find form at the start of the season, which ruled them out of finals contention.
In fact, after Round 15 in the last two seasons, St Kilda had a record of 5-9.
But now, on both occasions, with their finals chances having evaporated, they have been able to find form to help give them a boost up the ladder.
Last year, they managed to win six of their last nine games, which included scalps against Sydney and Geelong, to go from 15th to 12th.
This season, those wins (which have all been in single digits) have come against lesser opponents in North Melbourne (17th on the ladder), Richmond (16th), Essendon (15th) and Melbourne (13th), who then sacked their coach a couple of weeks after to go from 14th to now sit 11th.
Now, these wins (bar Melbourne) would have been pencilled in for the majority of Saints fans at the start of the season, but they have shown plenty of character.
In all four games, they have been required to make comeback wins from all sorts of scenarios. From being down a point against Essendon at half-time to then being 46 points down at three-quarter time against Melbourne.
Despite the different variables and situations, the result has stayed the same, with Adelaide the only team to have a longer win streak currently.
Now, whether this correlates to having success in 2026 is a different story, as shown by this season’s performance. But once again, the Saints have some positive momentum to finish out the year, which might be enough to give Saints fans some hope next season.
