Hawthorn forward Mabior Chol’s three-match ban for tackle that concussed Cat Tom Stewart has been thrown out by the Tribunal.
Following Hawthorn’s Preliminary Final loss to Geelong, the MRO handed down a three-match ban on Chol over the tackle.
The five-time All-Australian was left concussed in the first quarter from a tackle by the Hawthorn forward in which he was driven into the ground, meaning that Stewart has entered the AFL’s concussion protocols and will miss the 2025 AFL Grand Final.
The Match Review Officer, in its initial findings, deemed that Chol’s tackle on Stewart was careless, high contact and severe in impact.
On Tuesday night, the Tribunal overturned the suspension, finding that Chol’s tackle did not engage in rough conduct, citing teammate Sam Butler’s tackle as an external factor that played a role in the outcome on Stewart.
With the decision made by the Tribunal, Mabior Chol will be free to play next season’s opener for the Hawks.
