Mayhem in Moorabbin: Sam Edmund's extensive trade update
SEN chief journalist Sam Edmund has provided an extensive update on two of the biggest stories within the AFL’s trade space.
With the off-season well and truly up and running for sides outside the eight, a multitude of rumours are beginning to build with a number of players having already made their first move ahead of 2026.
Kicking off with the biggest name floated within trade rumours, Edmund detailed the ins and the outs of both the ongoings at the Blues, and St Kilda.

Charlie Curnow
“Charlie Curnow’s desire to be traded - something Blues’ fans have not wanted to believe, to hear, to learn, to read, to listen to,” Edmund said.
“Yesterday saw Charlie raise the prospect in his exit meeting, and as Tom Morris reported, Curnow spoke of his desire to be traded, but it was immediately shut down by those in the room.
“Not a big room, Michael Voss was in there, the coach, Nick Austin, the list manager and maybe a few others. We have widely reported on this, but will it actually happen?
“You’d still have to say it’s highly unlikely, but does this increase the percentage? He isn’t banging the door down, but the ball is very much in the court of Sydney, of Gold Coast and I think of Geelong.
“If, and it is a big if, either of those clubs come to the table with something significant, I actually think the Blues would do the deal. But Michael Voss is coaching for his life next year, we don’t need to overthink it.
“Graham Wright is on record as saying he wants the star core to remain, it’s hard to imagine a world where the blues would let this happen and sanction a trade with Michael Voss’ career on the line.
“Unless it is an absolute hail Mary back the other way, a real star back. That’s why it makes it so unlikely.”
Mayhem in Moorabbin
Tom De Koning is gone for $1.75 million a year for eight years to St Kilda,” Edmund said.
“The Saints actually bid against themselves this year to improve that offer and get Tom’s commitment, but he is there via free agency.
Jack Silvagni is gone too. The Western Bulldogs and Collingwood met with him several weeks ago, but now both of those clubs are more than a little nervous that they’re going to have the rug pulled out from under them by the club with the biggest and most aggressive shopping list in the game, St Kilda.
“The Saints approached Silvagni’s management yesterday, but like everything else with the Saints right now, there had actually been industry whispers for a while on Jack Silvagni to Moorabbin.
“I personally found them too hard to believe, but maybe they’re right. For what it’s worth, clubs believe that this has been on for some time.
“Some in fact will tell you that the Saints have indicated that they will offer Jack $800,000 a year for five years. One club I spoke to last night said no, it’s more than that. It’s up around $900,000 a year!
“So, Tom De Koning comes in after Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera signs for $2 million a year. Leek Aleer will arrive, Liam Ryan has been offered a three-year deal with a trigger for a fourth, Sam Flanders they are trying to get out of Gold Coast, Hawthorn’s young midfielder Cam Mackenzie they’ve also made an approach to.
“I love it, how’s the aggression and how’s the want to go out and cause havoc across the competition, and to throw a few haymakers in the trade space. Just about every club you speak to at the moment, it’s ‘bloody St Kilda, what are they doing there?’
“They’re doing the right thing by their organisation. But there’s only been two delisting’s so far. The inbox tray is overflowing. They would still have a couple more exits, wouldn’t they?
“How much is tyre kicking and tree shaking, and how much can actually get done? Don’t shut the door yet on Rowan Marshall leaving. The Saints are adamant, rock solid and insistent that he is staying. That’s both publicly and privately.
“Tom De Koning is being told that Rowan Marshall is staying, and he would need to know that to form his decision. My belief is that Rowan would like a move IF it can be struck.
“Can another club come to the party, and if they do, would the Saints be tempted on Rowan Marshall?
Marcus Windhager, just a hand via Tom Morris – he would have felt harshly done by with all this money and all these years being thrown out like confetti. The offer has been improved to four years for Marcus Windhager, who has showed some real ability when he has been freed from the shackles of having to be a lockdown tagger.”
