Lions ruckman yet to make call on future

Brisbane’s GM of footy, Danny Daly, says Oscar McInerney is yet to make a call on his future.
The 31-year-old ruckman got his premiership medal on Saturday after missing last year’s triumph with a dislocated shoulder.
It was reported by Tom Morris on Channel 9 on Sunday night that this season might be McInerney’s last despite being contracted for 2026.
Daly says at this stage McInerney - who has been plagued by back problems this year - has not yet made a decision but is contemplating what’s next.
“No, he hasn’t told us,” Daly said on SEN’s Fireball when asked about any retirement plans for the ‘Big O’.
“We’ve been chatting to him all the way through about mostly how he’s feeling with his back and body.
“It was great to be able to get him to the line to play in a Grand Final after last year. He’ll probably go away for a week or two, have discussions with his family and see where he sits.
“He’s obviously contracted for another year. We’ll take up those discussions with him in the next week or two.
“Our last discussion with him was that he wanted to keep playing, but in the cold light of day once he’s got a premiership under his belt he’ll make the decision about what’s best for him and his family, and we’ll support that.”
The Lions saw Joe Daniher retire after last year’s flag win over Sydney at the age of 30 with a year to run on his contract.
McInerney played his role in Brisbane’s 47-point win over Geelong on Saturday, finishing with 15 hit outs, eight disposals, four inside 50s, three score involvements and two clearances as the Lions went back-to-back.
