Hughes’ injury and Gorringe’s big fine headline Legends Game fallout
SEN •  August 29th, 2025 4:50 pm

The AFL Legends Game was a huge success last night on the field as the All Stars ran out 112-104 winners over Victoria as Cyril Rioli was named best afield.
More than 31,000 fans attended the big game which also drew in 2.3 million TV viewers, the biggest AFL audience of the year, while more than $1 million was raised for the Australian Prostate Centre.
In the wake of the big night, one man in particular pulled up a little worse for wear with Dave Hughes ending up in ICU on Friday morning.
While he was able to celebrate post-match, the full toll of a hit from Andrew Embley emerged in the early hours of Friday morning, with Hughes rushed to hospital with a punctured lung and five broken ribs.

Fan-favourite Dan Gorringe also copped a bit of a blow as he says he received a big fine from the AFL on Friday.
According to Gorringe, the league hit him with a $7500 sanction after ‘flipping the bird’ on 13 separate occasions during the clash towards players, officials and spectators.
The former Blue and Sun told his podcast Dan Does Footy that the league’s legal department sent him an email in the wake of the match where they also threatened him with increased fines and potential suspensions from future AFL-sanctioned activities.
In typical Gorringe fashion, he gave the middle finger to the AFL stating that he is ‘absolutely not paying’.
