Which players have had the most disappointing seasons this year?
Kane Cornes has revealed the 10 players he believes have failed to meet expectations in 2025, as judged by the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
See Kane's Countdown below:
10 - Darcy Moore (Collingwood)
“At 10 in terms of a disappointing season… the Collingwood captain Darcy Moore,” Cornes told SEN’s Sportsday.
“12 votes for the skipper of Collingwood.
“Now you might say, ‘Well the defenders don’t get that many votes.’
“Harris Andrews to compare had 30. James Sicily, we all think he’s been really disappointing and has missed some games through injury – 24.”
9 - Chad Warner (Sydney)
“Chad Warner comes in at nine.
“Considering he had 80 last year… phenomenal season – 32 (this year).
“32 is not a disaster, but for a player of his level of ability.”
8 – Charlie Curnow (Carlton)
“Considering in 2023 big Charlie had 63 coaches votes, he’s played 18 games this year, 32 goals, and six coaches votes. Six!
“A player of Charlie’s ability with six coaches votes, you can get 10 in one game!”
7 - Tom Stewart (Geelong)
“Number seven is Tom Stewart, one of my favourite players, the five-time All Australian.
“He’s played 16 games, I get there’s been some injury issues, but 16 games is enough to get more than four coaches votes!
“He’s a star, he’s 32, he’s getting up there, but he’s still one of their most important players.
“(Only) four coaches votes.”
6 - Tim Kelly (West Coast)
“Tim Kelly at seven coaches votes, now maybe the ship has sailed for Tim.”
“I looked at his numbers in 2023 – he had 62.
“Like he was getting big numbers not that long ago, and he’s fallen off a cliff.”
5 - Clayton Oliver (Melbourne)
“At five, could’ve been higher considering this is a winner of the coaches votes award in 2022, with 98 votes was Clayton Oliver.”
“One of the highest paid players in the league, 10 (votes).
“10 for a midfielder!
“10 for the year for Clayton, he’s on a million bucks, 98 in 22’, he’s a winner, he’s got a great record, but he’s nowhere near the player that we know.
“Whether he ever gets back there again, I’m not sure… If I had to guess, I’d say no.”
4 - Dan Houston (Collingwood)
“At four I’ve got one of my former men, I would’ve gone in to fight for this guy… I’m still not giving up (on him) – Dan Houston.”
“Has nine coaches votes, but all of those votes were in Round 1.
“Has not got a vote since Round 1.
“My theory is he’s being used poorly… You’ve got to feed him. I would also play him a bit more through the midfield, just to change his positioning up, where he’s actually very capable as an inside midfielder.
“He got 62 votes in 2023, he’s a dual All-Australian 23’ and 24’, (only) nine votes and not a vote since Round 1.”
3 - Luke Davies-Uniacke (North Melbourne)
“This next guy gets away with zero scrutiny, zero!”
“Luke Davies-Uniacke gets zero scrutiny.
“63 votes last year, 1.2 mil apparently… Seven coaches votes.
“Seven for a midfielder of his yield, his quality, I’ve seen him burst away, I’ve seen him look like he is a top-five player in the league.
“North fans, I’m sure you would agree.
“Can’t believe it.”
2 - Charlie Cameron (Brisbane)
“He’s got a bagel, zero. Has not received a coaches vote.”
“Now just to put this into perspective, Darcy Jones who I would say plays a similar position… He’s had seven votes, he’s polled in three games, he’s a second-year player.
“Couldn’t be more disappointed with his season, been very consistent for a long period of time, I get it.
“He’s got to find form.”
1 - Patrick Cripps (Carlton)
“I think the most disappointing performance this year in terms of the drop-off, and that’s high, high standards – Patrick Cripps.”
“Had 113 coaches votes last year, 25 (this year).
“This is harsh… His standards are so high that his performance has fallen off a cliff this year.
“So, he is the most disappointing player if your performance was judges off coaches votes."
