How Quaynor locked in to cancel out Adelaide fan boos
Collingwood defender Isaac Quaynor did incredibly well to block out the boos at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
The small defender was the target of the 52,187-strong Adelaide crowd, who were primarily in support of the Crows, after he was the target of a homophobic slur from Crows star Izak Rankine.
With Rankine banned for four games as a result of the incident, Crows fans took it upon themselves to boo Quaynor whenever he touched the footy in the Magpies’ win.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae said post-match that he was disappointed by the booing directed at both Quaynor and Dan Houston, who reportedly sledged Rankine during the previous clash at the Adelaide Oval.
"It is disappointing," McRae said at his press conference.
"Not just Isaac, but Dan.
"And these things, there are always stories behind things.
"I'm just not a booer, I said this years ago … I just get disappointed with that, I find that really disappointing.
"Just when I first heard, I thought: 'Oh, that's just disappointing.'
"And, geez, he must have touched the footy a lot because he had a lot of the ball — really proud of him and Dan and others.
"I'm not sure if it's pointed. You have to ask the people that booed in the crowd.”

Speaking to AFL Nation’s Gerard Whateley in the Collingwood rooms after the 24-point win, Quaynor says he blocked out the noise and locked in on his own game, as well as acknowledging Magpie fans for helping drown out some of those jeers.
Whateley: “Did you have any trepidation coming here tonight, Isaac?
“It was fairly predictable what was going to happen, regrettable though it is, how did you find the environment when you got the footy for the first couple of times?”
Quaynor: “Yeah, I did hear a little bit of it, but to be honest, I get so locked in during games that I don't really pay much mind to anything else other than what's on the field.
“So, to be honest, what I paid mind to was the Collingwood fans with the Collingwood chant and the incredible noise that they were making.
“I honestly just didn't pay much mind to it at all.”
Whateley: “That’s the best way to approach it.”
SEN’s Kane Cornes hailed Quaynor not just for handling the pressure but rising above it as he collected 16 disposals and three intercept marks.
“I thought Quaynor’s game last night was huge, jeez he played well,”
“They made this Adelaide tall forward line look silly.”
Quaynor and the Pies next gear up for a home Preliminary Final in two weeks.
