54: Kangaroo star equals seven-year record in brilliant disposal blitz

North Melbourne superstar Harry Sheezel has done the unthinkable, amounting 54 disposals during the Kangaroos’ win over Richmond to equal the all-time AFL record.
Collecting 13 disposals in the first quarter and 15 in the second, Sheezel was on track for a record-breaking tally with 28 in the first half, before securing the 50 in the final term, pushing on to equal the record with less than a minute remaining in the contest.
The 20-year-old becomes the first player since Lachie Neale in 2019 to amount 50 or more disposals in a single game, while equalling Tom Mitchell’s seven-year record of 54 disposals, managed in Hawthorn’s Round 1 win over Collingwood in 2018.
"It's crazy to think (about)," Sheezel told Fox Footy post game.
"Honestly, I'm not just saying it, it just came to me because of the work of my teammates. The ball just fell in my lap.
"It was just one of those days where it clicks, and fortunately for us it clicked. We were really chasing that win, and to get that win is just so important for our group for next week, and also for the off-season going forward.
"It was a special day. I'm really happy for the boys and it's a good win."
Sheezel becomes the 11th player in AFL history to accumulate 50 or more disposals in a game, aiding the Kangaroos to a 48-point win in North Melbourne’s final contest in Hobart.
On the day, Sheezel finished up with an unbelievable stat-line of 54 disposals, seven marks, six clearances, five tackles, and two goals.
