All-Australian Cat let go after injury-riddled run
Two-time best and fairest, All-Australian and premiership Cat Cam Guthrie has been informed that he will not receive a contract in 2026.
The 33-year-old midfielder has withstood extreme injury concerns over the past three seasons, playing just 10 games since 2023 and failing to take to the field in the AFL in 2025.
Guthrie played 240 games for Geelong, starring within an elite midfield across the 2010’s and early 2020’s.
Earning best and fairest nods in 2020 – alongside an All-Australian blazer - and in 2022 – Geelong’s premiership season – Guthrie has been a cornerstone within the Cats’ ongoing success since joining the side via the draft in 2010.
Achieving the ultimate goal in '22 alongside brother Zach, Cam Guthrie will leave the club with a life membership.
“Cam has been an outstanding and dedicated servant of the Geelong Football Club, both on and off the field,” Geelong Cats Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said.
“He has been ultra-consistent and had the special ability to elevate his game in key moments and times of success, particularly throughout our 2022 premiership campaign.
“Cam will always be a great Geelong person, with his influence extending well beyond what he achieved on the field.”
