Adam Simpson’s message to Simon Goodwin post sacking

Following his sacking from the Melbourne Demons, premiership coach Simon Goodwin appears prepared to jump straight back into the AFL world.
Goodwin has been vocal on the blindsided nature of his dismissal, believing that he was certainly the right man to take the club forward. Now without a job, the 48-year-old may feel he has much more to give.
It was reported mid-week that Goodwin had met with the GWS Giants over a potential role for 2026, with the senior coach clearly willing to re-enter the coaching realms with relative quickness.
That being said, former Eagles head coach Adam Simpson has urged Goodwin to take a breather.
“I think he’s a little bit different to ‘Horse’ (John Longmire) and I,” Simpson told SEN Crunch Time.
“He’s almost like, ‘I want to get back in now’. If I had any words of wisdom, it’s just to take a break.
“Going straight back in and coaching… if he’s getting paid out, enjoy! Go and get yourself reconnected with your family, go overseas, enjoy, have a bit of fun, and then start to do a bit of PD.
“We’re all different – he looks like he could jump straight into another role. That probably tells you that he’s not ready to smell the roses for a little bit.”
While the desire to coach still remains for the likes of Simpson, Longmire and Buckley, Simmo believes that the shock factor of Melbourne's decision plays a significant role in Goodwin's immediate job hunt.
“It’s interesting, and I hope they did this, Melbourne,” Simpson continued.
“When you’ve got these metrics, these small rocks you try and build, and then suddenly they start ticking over, and you think, ‘hang on, we’re starting to get something here.’
“I think Goody’s gone through, this game plan worked, this new game plan didn’t work, let’s go back to the old game plan. Whatever they landed on lately seemed to be getting some traction.
“That’s what probably would have been a bit of a shock for him. If he had have presented it to the board at the start of the year, ‘here it is, here’s the improvement...' (they may not have made the decision to let him go).
“That’s why I suppose he's ready to get back into it.”
