Why DCE to the Roosters makes 'absolute sense'

The fallout from Daly Cherry-Evans’ shock announcement that he will leave the Manly Sea Eagles after the 2025 season continues as the focus turns to which club will acquire the 36-year-old.
After 15 seasons at Manly which brought premiership success in 2011, Cherry-Evans told The Sydney Morning Herald that he will end his illustrious career at a rival team.
The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel believes the Sydney Roosters are shaping up as the most likely candidate.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Daly was at the Roosters in 2026,” Badel told SENQ Breakfast.
“Daly loves rugby league, he’s playing great football (so) I don’t believe that he is going to weigh up his immediate playing future.
“He’s missed 23 games in 15 years and that’s mostly been because of representative duty.
“It just makes sense. The Roosters desperately need another senior playmaker to be a foil with Sam Walker.
“It would be a wonderful pairing. They could be future Queensland halfbacks together.
“You have James Tedesco out the back and all of a sudden, you have the Roosters as a serious chance to win the competition.
“It’s a beautiful cocktail.”
Adding to the speculation of Cherry-Evans joining the Chooks is that his manager Joe Wehbe also manages Roosters captain James Tedesco and incoming hooker Reece Robson.
The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio said he would be keeping a keen eye on the Roosters and also the Dolphins where Cherry-Evans played his junior football.
“The Sydney Roosters makes absolute sense,” Riccio said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“The sleeper is the Dolphins. They have been secretly preparing an offer around the $1 million mark.
“Those are the two clubs I’m watching intently. I’m not interested in anyone else.”
