Cam Roigard had All Blacks fans breathing a collective sigh of relief on Wednesday, with the welcome revelation he'd decided to extend his deal with NZ Rugby through until the end of the 2029 season.
The halfback has been one of the most consistent performers for the All Blacks over the past year, proving himself as a linchpin for the backline's fortunes.
Already signed through until the end of 2027, the contract extension ensures the Counties-Manukau product will be in black for the British & Irish Lions tour of 2029.
Speaking to Sport Nation's Millsy & Guy, Roigard said the schedule over the next few years was a huge drawcard in his decision - as was the chance to add some missing silverware.
"What's next with the All Blacks calendar is something that was pretty exciting and probably enticed me a little bit," Roigard said.
Why Cam Roigard re-signed with NZR | Millsy & Guy
"It's no four-year cycle now, the World Cup is literally next year and then that Lions Tour is not far away as well, so yeah, that was probably something that enticed me to sign to 29
"Also the opportunity to play for the Hurricanes for another four seasons. Obviously I haven't won a Super Rugby title and that's something that I want to achieve before I finish up."
The opportunity to secure his future longer term was also a big factor, Roigard admitting he had no genuine interest in taking his talents off-shore.
"I was already previously signed until '27, so a conversation came up with NZR whether I did want to lock in for the Lions tour and the end of '29.
"The conversation was pretty simple whether I did and it was just making sure I was getting looked after and I wasn't going to regret it in a few years time.
"I wasn't too interested in looking overseas, to be honest. I still feel like I've got a lot to give with NZR and playing for the Hurricanes and this is what I want to carry on doing.
"It was a pretty simple decision."
