'Where I started believing': Fox goes full circle in return to Australian PGA Championship

New Zealand's Ryan Fox has confirmed he will play at this year’s Australian PGA Championship, alongside compatriots Daniel Hillier and Kazumi Kobori.
With two wins on the PGA Tour this year (Myrtle Beach Classic and the Canadian Open), the Kiwi golfer will be one of the superstars teeing off at Royal Queensland Golf Course in late November.
The course will also be the host for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, and while Fox acknowledges the challenges, he admits backing up in seven years would be on his radar.
“I'm still going to have PGA Tour status for LA (Los Angeles Olympics in 2028), so I'm definitely hanging around for that long. Another four years after that would be a pretty good goal to have.”
This year will mark Fox’s first appearance at the Australian showpiece since 2022, when it was won by Cameron Smith.
Speaking after his announcement on Tuesday, Fox said that he enjoys both the Royal Queensland course and Brisbane as a city and hopes there will be plenty of his compatriots cheering him on in the galleries.
“I know there's a pretty strong Kiwi contingent in Queensland and hopefully there's a few Kiwis fly over to watch the PGA as well, so it'll feel like a little bit like playing at home, maybe just with some slightly better weather than we get the end of November.”

Fox reminisced on playing Royal Queensland Golf course in the Australian Amateur back in 2009, a competition which, to this day, carries a sentimental edge. While he lost in the semi-finals, he felt that week gave him the confidence to believe he could become a professional.
“It's kind of going back full circle to Royal Queensland, where I wouldn't say it all began, but it was definitely where I started believing.”
Over the years, the Aucklander has experienced plenty of success across the ditch. He won his maiden DP World Tour tournament in Perth at the Super Sixes event in early 2019.
He has also won on Australia’s East Coast, winning the Queensland PGA at Toowomba in 2015, a victory that saw his world ranking jump to No. 203 at the time.
Now ranked 34th in the world, Fox has the Fed EX Cup playoff series, starting this week at the Fed Ex St Jude Championship in Memphis.
Fox is currently 32nd in the Fed Ex Cup playoff rankings and is looking for one good week over the next fortnight in order to climb into the Top 30 and subsequently qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta at the end of August.
Playing at the Queensland PGA in November will be part of Fox’s summer back in Australasia.
Over the past couple of years, that's included his 'Chasing the Fox' event at Royal Auckland Golf Club, as well as hosting a fishing and golf festival at Waihi for charity.
Unlike past years, Fox will be starting his PGA Tour year at the Sentry event in Hawaii in early January, as this is a limited field event strictly for tournament winners in 2025.
