'Well aware of it': All Blacks embrace Eden Park legacy ahead of Ireland clash

Luke Jacobson knows what is coming.
Ireland are back in New Zealand, Eden Park’s 52-match unbeaten run is on the line, and the All Blacks No. 7 says the squad are ready to lean into the occasion.
“Rather than being a weight on our shoulders, we use it as a bit of a pick-me-up and excitement to carry on that legacy that’s been created by the guys that have come before us,” Jacobson told Sport Nation Mornings.
Ireland’s last visit ended in a historic series win, and while Jacobson says revenge has not been a major talking point, nobody in camp has forgotten.
“Obviously all the boys are well aware of it,” he said.
“Ireland are a quality side and there’s a lot of respect between the two nations. We know we’re going to have to bring our best.”
Jacobson will wear the coveted seven jersey for a third straight test under Dave Rennie, joining a lineage that includes Sir Michael Jones, Josh Kronfeld and Richie McCaw.
“Just taking a moment just to acknowledge who’s been before in the jersey, but also what I wanted to add to it,” he said.
“I’ve got to go out there and earn it each week.”
Asked about the physical edge he brings, and his reputation for “sharp shoulders”, Jacobson kept it simple.
“I’d say probably most of it’s just in your intent to want to go up and hit somebody,” he said.
There is history, tension and an unbeaten fortress to protect.
For Jacobson, though, the job is clear: “The main priority is on getting the job done.”
