The NZ Warriors have agreed to a request from halfback Luke Metcalf's management to discuss potential options with rival clubs for 2027.
A statement from Warriors CEO Cameron George said “we will not make any further comment on this matter until a further update is provided by Luke and or his management.”
The announcement follows reports that the 27-year-old and his management hoped to gain clarity over the future of the Warriors No. 7 jersey after returning from a second injury stint.
Metcalf was the 2025 Daly M points leader, before being forced to the sidelines with an ACL injury sustained in the club's Round 17 clash with the Brisbane Broncos.

While heartbreak struck for Wahs Nation, it provided an opportunity for former Titans halfback Tanah Boyd, who had been playing in the Warriors' NSW Cup team, to step up in Metcalf's place.
With Boyd showing potential and improvement in 2026, Warriors head coach Andrew Webster slotted Metcalf back into the team at five-eighth in Round 4, however the team's winning streak ended 32-14 against the Tigers.
In Round 5 against his former Sharks teammates, Metcalf again started at No. 6 but sustained a hamstring injury, which saw Webster revert back to a halves combination of Boyd and Chanel Harris-Tavita. The following week against the Melbourne Storm, they were instrumental in the club's 38-14 victory.

Reports from News Corp Australia this week suggest Boyd’s Warriors contract has been extended, however the detail remains unconfirmed.
Originally off contract at the end of the 2026 season, Metcalf signed a contract in November to stay at the club until 2028, but technically the contract has not commenced.
Metcalf has not been listed in the Warriors' Magic Round squad to play the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium this Sunday.
