VFL Round 11: Tigers suffer double injury blow, Roo at his physical best

VFL's Round 11 has wrapped up, with a number of AFL listed talent putting their names in the mix for senior selection.
The Tigers claimed a huge five-point win over the Swans to leap into the top four, however it came at a cost.
In tough news for both the VFL and the senior side, youngsters Campbell Gray and Judson Clarke both went down with knee concerns early, with scans confirming Clarke will miss the remainder of the season with a re-aggravated ACL injury. Gray has avoided surgery, however a timeline for his return is TBC.
A strong win in their absence, Jacob Blight collected 24 touches and 10 intercepts as he looks likely to fill the hole left by Gray in the senior side.
Ollie Florent was strong for the Swans with 28 disposals, 16 contested and seven clearances, while Ben Paton and Caiden Cleary were also amongst their best.
A number of Giants stuffed the stat sheet in their 103-point demolition over the Bullants.
A five-goal haul for Nathan Wardius, four from eight scoring shots from Max Gruzewski and a double for both Harry Rowston and Josaia Delana led the line for GWS, with the win holding them firmly in third place.
Will Phillips was at his physical best as the Kangaroos picked up an impressive 41-point win over the reigning premiers Werribee.
Phillips was bullish in the midfield, recorded a whopping 21 tackles to go with 22 touches and five clearances. Bailey Scott was also strong with 26, while mid-season selection Zach Banch booted three goals.
Footscray picked up a strong 44-point win over Coburg, winning every quarter to maintain their spot in the eight.
Jedd Busslinger was dominant in the back half with 26 disposals and 10 marks, formidable alongside Liam Jones with 10 intercept possessions behind the ball.
Cooper Hynes was a standout in the midfield with 31 disposals (19 contested) and nine clearances, while Caleb Poulter kicked four majors.
Box Hill’s 63-point win over Frankson sees the Hawks jump Southport to take the top spot on the VFL ladder.
Henry Hustwaite continued his elite VFL form, managing 32 disposals (21 contested) and 13 clearances in the engine room, with Cam Mackenzie also performing with 28.
19-year-old William McCabe showed promising signs, booting four goals from seven marks ahead of the ball, while Jaspar Scaife (three goals), Calsher Dear (three goals) and Luke Breust (two goals) also found the sticks on multiple occasions.
The Casey Demons picked up a strong win over Collingwood on Saturday night, fending off a final term comeback to walk away nine-point winners.
Bailey Laurie and Jack Billings were both in top form for the Demons, combining for 59 disposals, 12 intercepts, eight clearances and eight tackles.
Harry DeMattia (28 disposals, 13 contested) also performed well, while mid-season draftee Roan Steele (20 disposals, one goal) was strong against his former side. Tom Mitchell also continues to put up solid numbers en route to a return to the AFL, collecting 26 disposals and six tackles despite the loss.
The Cats fought off a late Suns charge in the wet, holding on to win by three points at GMHBA Stadium.
Geelong’s young core of George Stevens, Oliver Wiltshire, Mitch Knevitt and Jhye Clark were all in top notch in poor conditions, playing vital roles through the midfield despite a dominant performance from Suns ruckman Ned Moyle.
Moyle, who was a late omission from the Suns senior side, collected 24 disposals (14 contested), 12 tackles, six clearances and a whopping 63 hit outs in the contest, while Jy Farrar booted five goals from just eight disposals.
To wrap up the round, a commanding fourth quarter saw the Blues pull away against the Bombers, winning by three goals at Windy Hill.
Carlton’s Ben Camporeale had one of his best games of the season, with 30 disposals (22 contested), 12 clearances, five tackles and a goal, while brother Lucas finished up with 20 and mid-season draftee Flynn Young kicked a goal on debut.
Harry O’Farrell put his name back up for selection, with a dominant 11 intercept possessions and eight marks in defence.
Liam McMahon faced up against his old side, kicked two goals from just five touches, while Elijah Tsatas managed 28 touches in the midfield and mid-season pickup Oskar Smartt also impressed.
