Welsh club Wrexham AFC, co-owned by actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, will take on the A-League's Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium on Saturday, July 19.
Wrexham are fresh off a record-breaking third straight promotion and will enter the English Championship next season - their journey from the bottom of the English football pyramid has gone global thanks to the hit documentary series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.
Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome says the match is a major event for football fans in Aotearoa.
“We’re delighted to be welcoming Wrexham to Wellington," Dome said.
"The capital has a proud history of hosting New Zealand’s biggest football events, and this promises to be another unmissable match at Sky Stadium.” Dome said.
"Wrexham have had an incredible rise to the Championship and I know our players can't wait to test themselves against the Red Dragons."
Wrexham will kick off their Australasian tour in Melbourne, where they meet the Victory on July 11. Then it's on to Sydney for a showdown with Sydney FC on July 15, before they wrap things up in Wellington.
The tour follows Wrexham’s visits to the US in 2023 and 2024, when they played Manchester United and Chelsea.
McElhenney and Reynolds say the upcoming visit to Australia and New Zealand is the next exciting step in the club’s extraordinary journey.
“Following our record-breaking hat trick of promotions, which will see us playing in the Championship next season, we felt it was time for a new challenge on our summer tour.
“So, what better than playing three matches in Australia and New Zealand.
“It will be a great way for all our Wrexham fans down there to see the team and, anyway, we couldn’t resist signing off with a tag line so, 'Up The Town Down Under!”
Phoenix members can grab tickets early from 1pm on May 14 - everyone else gets their chance when general sales open at 11.30am on May 16.
