Timely ton has selectors “really leaning” towards Green for WTC Final
Cameron Green’s latest County Championship century for Gloucestershire sent a timely reminder to Australian selectors ahead of the upcoming World Test Championship Final.
Having last played Test cricket in March 2024 prior to this English season, Green has quickly recaptured form in four games for Gloucestershire this season, scoring two tons and a fifty. His score of 128 from 184 balls against Kent this week was his best effort yet.
With some touch behind him and his game suiting English conditions, veteran cricket journalist Robert Craddock says that Australia are leaning towards recalling him for the big game against South Africa, even if he’s still yet to bowl as he recovers from back surgery.
“Look, they're really leaning towards playing him in the World Test Championship Final against South Africa.
“In an older team, he is the future. English cricket suits him.
“He's got such a good technique for their wickets, so I totally get that.”

With Green unable to bowl, Craddock thinks that Australia must also select all-rounder Beau Webster, who has scored 165 runs @ 41.25 and taken eight wickets from his three County game shit season for Warwickshire.
“But the interesting one is Beau Webster, who's bowling where Green isn't, and I think they’ve got to have them both in the team,” Craddock said.
“He's only had the three games for Warwickshire, Beau Webster, but he's been very tidy.
“He’s had innings of 85 and 41, and in his last game with those little dibbly dobblies that he bowls, he took 2/42 and 4/57 against Hampshire.
“If they play Webster in this game against South Africa at Lord's, there will be a moment like there was in Sydney, where he's just going to do something decisive. It could be a fabulous catch, it could be a wicket with his unpretentious little mediums, or just that fighting 42 when things are pretty tough.
“The squeeze is on.”
The World Test Championship Final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s begins on June 11.
