‘There’s still hope’: Ben Campbell on the future of LIV Golf

It has been a disappointing week for LIV golfers, with reports that Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund will stop funding LIV Golf after this year.
A late phone call from two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson saw Kiwi golfer Ben Campbell step into LIV for the 2025 season, having previously been called into action as a reserve three times during the 2024 campaign.
“It’s changed my life, my family’s life, and obviously financially it’s been great, but I’ve obviously learned a lot,” Campbell told Sport Nation’s Millsy & Guy.
“There’s a whole lot of things that I feel like I’ve taken away from it and I’ve learned a lot. Hopefully some of those playing things I can pass on to some of the juniors here in New Zealand.”

Despite the uncertainty around the competition’s future, Campbell remains hopeful LIV Golf will continue in some form.
“I think there’s still hope for next year. Obviously, Scott (O’Neil, CEO) has got some work to do and it’s obviously not the news you want to hear, but there is still a chance that this year is still going ahead full noise.
“Hopefully we can do what we can this year, put on some good shows and convince some people to get behind it next year.”
