“The vibe is great”: Carey and Aussies optimistic ahead of Adelaide
Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey is expecting the Test side to bounce back after their 295-run defeat to India in Perth.
With the Adelaide Test beginning on Friday, Carey says that the vibe is high around the group despite the 1-0 deficit. The South Australian is certain they can recapture their best cricket in the day/night Test.
While Carey concedes that India are clearly a world-class side, he thinks that the Aussies lost most of the key moments in Perth – particularly early in the Test – and he feels the XI can turn that around if they get on top in those pivotal junctures in Adelaide.
“It's a great opportunity to probably have a little bit of a break and prepare for the pink ball,” Carey told SEN Afternoons.
“The vibe is great still. I'm watching the boys run around now in Adelaide when the sun's out and everyone's keen to get out and play. It's an exciting feel around the group.
“(In Perth) I think we just lost a couple of key moments and late that first day it’s a bit what might have been if we could have lost a few fewer wickets.
“But we know they're a world-class outfit and it’s going to be a fantastic series, but I think with our group there’s so much upside, which is exciting from our point of view.
“I think we can play with a very exciting style of cricket, and we'll have the success here in Adelaide.”

Following that heavy defeat, Australia has been smashed from pillar to post with many stating that the cliff has come for the aging team.
While Carey admits that it’s hard not to hear that outside noise, he thinks that the side’s experience will come back to repay them as they understand exactly what they need to focus on to level the series in Adelaide.
“There's a lot of external stuff being thrown around, but I know internally we're super confident that here in Adelaide, we'll play our best style of cricket,” Carey said.
“With the experience at the top of the order, through the middle and the bowlers, it's a great group to be around and I think we're just really excited to get out there again on Friday.
“It's hard to not hear the noise but I think we accept it, internally listen to what we need to and worry about the stuff we need to focus on.
“I trust this group to be really consistent, to be really strong and win games of cricket.”
The second Test between Australia and India begins on Friday, December 6. Listen to every ball LIVE on SEN and the SEN app.
