The promising horse who could be an “ATM” this spring
Clevor Trever has announced himself as one of the most promising rising colts ahead of the 2026 Spring Racing Carnival.
The three-year-old son of Omaha Beach is on a five-race winning streak, boasting an incredible record of five victories and two second’s from seven starts.
Trained by Patrick Payne, he is a chestnut who is “set for bigger success in the future,” according to RSN’s Trav Noonan.
Speaking on RSN’s Correct Weight, Trav admitted that this colt is becoming a punters' favourite, drawing similiarites from his older brother, Jimmy The Bear, who similarly started his career on fire.
“He's becoming a real favourite of punters because he just knows where the post is,” stated Trav.
“He's really replicating what his older brother did in Jimmy The Bear, going through the grades, but you'd probably say at the same stage of their career, he's probably ahead of Jimmy.”
On Saturday, the rising colt extended his winning streak, claiming triumph in the Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m) at Flemington, winning by 1.25 lengths.
Reflecting on that victory Trav’s brother, Nick, exclaimed that Clevor Trever is the main horse out of the entire Flemington meeting on Saturday who could succeed in the spring.
“He's been absolutely airborne, hasn't he?” said Nick.
“I think out of all the horses there, he's probably the one you take out of the day and go, ‘This could be a real sort of spring player’.
“Out of what we've seen this campaign, just his will to find the line and win races, it's hard to find that in a horse.”
As Clevor Trever is a VOBIS horse, he may be targeting quite a few VOBIS races in the spring, potentially allowing the promising colt to be an ATM for punters.
Nick: “He is a VOBIS, so maybe there'll be some VOBIS races for him.”
“Gee, he might be the punter's pal again in the spring, just being a bit of an ATM in those VOBIS races.”
Trav: “I suppose he'd be targeting those races, rather than looking at Stakes level.”
“You could imagine that he'd get to a very good level if they wanted to test him in some strong races in the spring, but knowing Patrick's style and owner Mike Hirst, they like giving their horses every chance in those bonus races.
“I would suggest that's probably the path he's going to go down.”
Clevor Trever is a horse you definitely want to have in your Blackbook for the spring.
