The most intriguing team for the Las Vegas season opener according to Andrew Voss
SEN’s Andrew Voss considers the Penrith Panthers as the most intriguing team heading into Las Vegas for the season opener as they look to chase.
The NRL premiers for the fourth consecutive year are already in the annals of NRL history as one of the great dynasties being the only team in the modern era to have achieved the feat of a four peat.
Speaking live from Las Vegas as a guest on SEN 1170’s Breakfast, Voss was curious at whether Penrith would be able to continue at the quite high standards that they have been at for the last five seasons.
“From a football perspective, big picture, I am intrigued with Penrith.” Voss remarked
“The four-time premier with Luai gone and others, Fisher-Harris and Turuva, I want to see how they come out of the blocks.”
“I have tipped the Sharks but what will be the standard of excellence of the Panthers in Round one given we haven’t seen of the elite playing group.”

While the elite playing group which features the likes of Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards, Brian To’o and co. have not played within the pre-season challenge, Penrith has still been competitive through it showing the depths of their famed junior program.
This has been shown through the further emergence of Jack Cole who will take up the number six jersey alongside Cleary in the halves, replacing the departed Jarome Luai.
In their two matches that they played before jetting off to Las Vegas, the Panthers would take a loss to Canberra 16-22 but managed to defeat the Manly Sea-Eagles 38-22.
Voss would also mention that he also interested to see how the Super League match between Wigan and Warrington fares as the English competition makes its debut at the Las Vegas event.
“I’m intrigued by the Super League teams. How positive they approach it, (in) the first game and how they play with the different dimensions.”
Penrith will kick off their premiership defence in Las Vegas against the Cronulla Sharks in a preliminary final rematch this Sunday at 3:30pm AEDT.
SEN will have live commentary of this game available on the SEN app as part of it NRL coverage.
