Liam Lawson has delivered another strong weekend in Singapore, finishing seventh in the Formula 1 Grand Prix after claiming fifth in Saturday's sprint race.
The New Zealander made an early move in the Grand Prix, passing rival Pierre Gasly before the first corner of lap one.
But it was Max Verstappen who won the race, ahead of Charles Leclerc, Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton, with Lawson next across the line.
George Russell began the race from the rear of the field and Isack Hadjar from pit lane due to car modifications, with the pair finishing ninth and 10th, behind Nico Hulkenberg.
F1 correspondent Andy Carline told Sport Nation Lawson had made the most of his weekend, picking up "a lovely haul of 10 points over the weekend.”
The result took Lawson to 75 points in the Drivers’ Championship, putting him ninth and 34 points ahead of Gasly. Racing Bulls have 100 points, with Lawson responsible for three quarters of the team’s total.
“He's up to 75 points in the Drivers' Championship now. Solid ninth place, well ahead of Pierre Gasly on 41.”
“Racing Bulls have now got 100 points and Liam's earned three quarters of them so, I think that speaks for itself really.”
Lawson finished 30 seconds behind the car in front, but Carline said the gap reflected the difference between the leading teams and the rest of the field.
“It was a big gap between him and the car in front, 30 odd seconds, but that's how much faster the top four teams are than the rest.
“So I think he can be delighted with himself,” he explained.
Carline said Lawson had the potential to win races with the right car, praising his progress and consistency.
“I think he absolutely could be a race winner if you gave him the right car.
“I've been impressed with how much he's improved and how consistent he's been.
“One of the things that he or he is always able to do is go long on a set of tyres and he's kept his nose clean a lot more than he used to, doesn't tend to have run-ins with other drivers to the same extent.
“I think he's got the full package, who knows how far he could go if you gave him the right car, but I certainly think race wins would be on the cards for sure.”
Lawson’s future remains part of a wider picture of uncertainty on the grid, with Racing Bulls’ and Haas’ the only two teams with seats still unsettled for 2027.
