Briasa took out the Group 2 Premiere Stakes with a “smoking” pace, winning the 1100m sprint in 1:02.130.
Michael Hawkes the co-trainer of Briasa, alongside Wayne and John Hawkes was ecstatic with the victory and sees the grey as a massive threat in the $20 million Everest.
The Everest-bound trainer with Briasa delivered a message to short-priced Everest favourite from Hong Kong - Ka Ying Rising.
“Bring on Ka Ying Rising, that’s what I say,” Hawkes told 7’s Horse Racing.
“Third-up in The Everest, look out!
When asked about the five-year-old’s performance in the Premiere Stakes, Hawkes admitted that Briasa is a special horse.
“All our horses always perform well, but first-up (in the Shorts) was enormous, we had a lot left in the tank,” he revealed.
“What I loved the most was that he just stalked.
“I’ve always had belief! this horse is just special.
“He’s a star and I’ll give Tyler Schiller (jockey) credit. He rode him perfectly.”
Briasa is now $11 (on Sportsbet) to win The Everest.
