Tasracing's Friday best bets at Launceston (17/10)
Matt Reid • October 17th, 2025 9:30 am

The second night meeting of the season arrives in Launceston on Friday with an eight-race card.
The weather forecast looks much kinder than a week ago, when wild winds forced the Friday night meeting to be moved to Sunday.
The rail moves out to +6m from +3m here five days ago.
Best Bet
Race 4 – 6. Mastretta
Mastretta relished the return to Launceston with a dominant win in quick time. She burnt the candle at both ends in that race and draws for a much softer run here. It’s a non-claiming race, but Jabez Johnstone is riding in great form, and he gets in with 55kg. It looks like a great race for Mastretta, and the market agrees; she’s been $2.80 into $1.90 early.
Next best
Race 2 – 5. The Trine
The Trine was a touch slow away first-up but hit the line well in a race dominated on-speed. Pole draw here, I think, helps as he ducked in under riding in the straight last time, and he may be able to find the front with a clean getaway. He’ll be well found, but I think anything in the black will be fair about The Trine.
Best each-way
Race 8 – 8. Turf Puzzle
Turf Puzzle looks over the odds in the last race. She chased home Mastretta last start, who is expected to frank the form earlier, and while Turf Puzzle had every chance in running, the overall time was quick. She only missed by a nostril at the T&D back in August and has been fairly consistent since then. Drawn for the right run and looks a good each-way chance in a typically open BM60 to finish the night.
