Tanah Boyd: Silver lining to injury heartbreak

Despite a nation-wide grief period for Tanah Boyd, the injured Warriors halfback has found a silver lining during his rehabilitation.
The playmaker suffered a season-ending ACL injury at Magic Round against the Brisbane Broncos, with Te Maire Martin since filling the halves void over recent months.
Opening up about his journey on Sport Nation’s Scotty & Izzy, Boyd said that despite an initial period of grief, his rehabilitation has been smooth sailing.
“It’s going good, from all reports my knee is in a great place. I'm flying at the moment, haven't had any hiccups yet but I'm sure there will be along the road but trying to tick every box every day and do everything I can.
“I feel like I had that initial grieving stage for the first month, I reckon, and then I kind of had to quickly feel better otherwise you just end up in a bit of a hole.”

Since then, the 26-year-old has found enjoyment in using the time away from games to identify weaknesses in his body and work on areas he may not have otherwise been able to focus on during a regular playing schedule.
“I was straight into finding ways how I can do things different, find weaknesses in my body that I want to work on and focus on and to be honest, I'm finding a lot of enjoyment in the process of rehab, getting into training and working on different parts of my body that I want to strengthen up.
“I'm finding enjoyment in that, obviously because I can't get the enjoyment of the process or preparing for games, so just trying to find something in my training and something I can look forward to every day.”

Boyd has also turned his focus toward documenting his rehabilitation on social media - something he said has helped give him a positive outlet.
“It's been good for me. I've kind of focused on that and it allowed me to not focus on footy as much, which is definitely hard because it's definitely hard to watch them on the weekends.
“It's been giving me something else to worry about,” he shared.
Boyd, who recently re-signed until the end of 2029, said he has remained connected to the playing group, offering support to the club’s current halves combination of Chanel Harris-Tavita and Te Maire Martin.

“I get into a majority of the meetings and reviews and things like that and I definitely speak up when I feel like it's needed but I also don't want to step on anyone's toes. You're not out there doing it so it's definitely hard to find that balance.
“I know the boys are going to find a way and they know what they're doing. Te Maire and Chanel and Waydo (Egan), they know what they are doing, they've been playing long enough.”
Boyd also said Luke Metcalf, who will depart the club at the end of 2026 to join the St. George Illawarra Dragons, has continued to stay ready for whenever another first-grade chance at the Warriors comes his way.
“He's rearing to go and he's preparing the boys to the best that he can. Lukey’s nipping at the heels, that's for sure. He knows that and he definitely wants to play first grade here again.
“You never know what can happen in the game. He's been training well, playing well in cup, so I'm sure his chance will come.”
