Nick Kyrgios and John Millman have slammed the 18-month ban given to compatriot Max Purcell, insisting that the International Tennis Integrity Agency have “double standards”.
At the end of 2024, Purcell entered a voluntary provisional suspension after admitting to a breach “relating to a prohibited method.”
At the time, the world doubles No 12, said he “unknowingly received an IV infusion of vitamins above the allowable limit of 100ml”.
After months of waiting, it was confirmed yesterday by the International Tennis Integrity Agency that Purcell had accepted an 18-month ban which includes time already served.
Nick Kyrgios was outraged with the decision and expressed his disappointment on X.
“So honest feelings about how ridiculous Purcell’s ban is?” Kyrgios said.
“Vitamins? Can we justify this?
“Or do we just admit that the whole system is cooked.”
Former Australian great John Millman also called out the International Tennis Integrity Agency for having no integrity.
“Max Purcell getting an 18-month ban is a joke,” Millman tweeted.
“There are too many inconsistencies on the tour.
“Positive testing, tue’s, intravenous regs, performance enhancing thresholds, trial times, and the list goes on.
“This is not finger pointing at any player but the system as a whole.”
Millman also pointed out how there is “double standards” in sanctions, referencing how the world No. 1 Jannik Sinner only received a three-month ban after he was found with a banned substance in his body.
“We talk about double standards, if there’s such a thing as triple standard, I think that’s what is happening here,” Millman told Channel 9.
“It does certainly look as if those top players are getting preferential treatment.
“Max didn’t have a prohibited substance in his body, he had too much of an infusion, which I just think it’s ridiculous.
“I think there should be a complete overhaul.”
