It's not every day you get a veteran of 268 Premier League appearances on your show, so you can only imagine the fizz levels when Studs Up! hosts Riccardo Ball & Daniel McHardy welcomed Ledley King into the studio on Tuesday.
The Tottenham Hotspur great is in New Zealand to promote his beloved's club impending visit to New Zealand to face premier Kiwi A-League side Auckland FC on July 26 at Auckland's Eden Park.
King was at The Garden on Monday night to get a first-hand glimpse of what his team will be facing, as the hosts earned an emphatic 4-1 win over Chile, where there was one player in particular who caught the ex-England international's eye.
"I'll tell you what I was impressed with, Alex Paulsen," King said, pinpointing the precocious young goalkeeper.
Which All White would Ledley King pick to save Spurs? | Studs Up!
"Very good with his feet and that's the way most teams want to play now these days. You want a goalkeeper that can play with his feet. I've saw him spreading balls left, right. You nearly got in trouble once but that's that's a risk you take.
"When you want to build up from the back and play good football you need a goal keeper that's comfortable with there.
"There were others out there but I didn't necessarily know their names."
Now 45 years old, King wound back the clock to his own playing days, reflecting on some of the greats he shared the pitch with, where he sees the game going, and what it's going to take to rescue his team from the increasingly real threat of being relegated from the Premier League.
