Sick lap: Kostecki chunders his way to Supercars win

Brodie Kostecki has conquered bouts of illness to claim his first Supercars victory of 2026, holding out Matthew Payne in the opening race of the Melbourne SuperSprint.
After vomiting midway through his flying lap in qualifying earlier on Thursday to take pole, Kostecki then led from lights to chequered flag to take victory for Dick Johnson Racing.
The 23-year-old's win came in a shortened 17-lap race, after Jackson Walls beached his Triple Eight Racing car and forced a lengthy safety car.
But the story of the day was his effort in the first qualifying session, where he was physically sick while going through the fast-flowing turns eight and nine and emerged from the car with vomit on his race suit.
"I had a bit of a chuck, but it was a sick lap," Kastecki quipped after his victory.

"I hadn't been feeling too well today, it was unfortunate it happened in qualifying. Those things happen sometimes.
"It was more difficult getting out of the car than what it was to drive."
He finished second in one race, but copped a 15-second penalty for spinning Aaron Cameron and dropped from fourth to 12th in the final race of the weekend.
Cameron also spun out of contention for a podium in Thursday's race, but this time it was all of his own doing when he fell out of the top 10 following the safety car restart.
The hard-luck story of Thursday was Jayden Ojeda, who was quickest in first practice on Friday morning before hitting the wall in the next session.
He missed both qualifying sessions, but his Chevrolet was repaired in time to start from the back of the grid in Thursday's race and recover to 16th.
