SENTrack: Tasracing’s Wednesday best bets at Launceston (04/12)

After the excitement of the Newmarket and 3YO Cup last week, night racing returns to Launceston a week later for an eight-race card on Wednesday night.
The rail moves out to +3m after being true last Wednesday, where the track raced exceptionally well despite significant rainfall on race day.
The forecast for Wednesday is 25C and fine.
Best bet
Race 6 – 1. Sweet Lucifer
Sweet Lucifer drops back to BM60 grade here and gets in well with 60.5kg, given he is a 71-rater. The market knew he may have needed the run first-up, but he still ran decent, only beaten just over a length to the flying Geegee Jet By. There’s little doubt he’s the best horse in the race, and while making a 4kg claimer the best bet is fraught with danger, I think that’s being overly baked into the price of $5 that’s being offered.

Race 1 – 2. Kakia
The Jessie Bazan stable has been in good form, and hopefully, Kakia can continue that run in the first of the night. He trialled well before his first-up appearance but was wide without cover in a run that is easily excused. Second-up, he was third in a strong BM60 and arguably would’ve won had he gotten clear at the top of the straight. I have him a clear favourite in the race.

Race 4 – 5. Valiant Khan
It looks like a tricky night for punters that may throw up some value results. Valiant Khan is over the odds for mine in what is admittedly a strong maiden/class 1. He went straight to 1400m first-up, running fourth to Waddy Waddy after only getting out when the race was over. The placement here tells me he’s being trained to get over ground this time, and I think his efforts last campaign can be excused at a time when Adam Trinder’s team was underperforming after a virus went through his stable.
