Thoroughbred racing is in Hobart on Sunday for a strong nine-race program.
The rail is at +9m, a shift from +5m for the program here a fortnight ago. There is rain forecast for the weekend, which could impact how the track plays.

Race 5 – 1. Snowdonia
The 3yo filly resumes after chasing some good prize money races during the Summer Racing Festival. Her recent trial was the quickest of the morning, just edging out a pair of stablemates who are open class. Snowdonia has her fair share of weight with 59kg, but connections opt against using a claiming apprentice, and I think her class will prevail.

Race 8 – 2. Ashfall
The open class staying race looks to be a race between Ashfall and the St Leger winner, Zulu Angel. I’m leaning towards Ashfall, who has spent the preparation at home, and has more than provided a return on the $60,000 that connections paid for him as a tried purchase. His form on rain-affected ground is superior to Zulu Angel, which may be an important factor late in the day.

Race 1 – 11. Vansittart
The nine-race card kicks off with an open maiden that could easily throw up a rough result. Vansittart hasn’t placed in 10 career starts, but her form is better than it reads. She should’ve finished much closer than sixth two starts back in Launceston and had excuses last time in Devonport when pushed off the track on the home turn. I think she’s better suited back on grass and will be worth an each-way ticket at good odds.
