Tasmanian thoroughbred racing is in the northwest of the state on Sunday for a nine-race program in Devonport.
The first of the day is scheduled for 11:10am AEST.

Race 9 – 2. Shy Guy
I found it a tough program for standouts, and I’ve landed on the last race for my best. Shy Guy had a little mid-prep freshen before his win two starts ago and is enjoying racing on his home track. In a tight three-way finish, he just missed behind Spring Bean last time but meets that horse 1.5kg better at the weights. Up to 1880m looks ideal for this stage of the campaign, and the experience of Kelvin Sanderson should be a bonus with half the field ridden by apprentices.

Race 6 – 2. Kireina Marubrah
I’m hitching my wagon to the same form line as Shy Guy and Kiriena Marubrah crossed the line together last start. Kiriena Marubrah led on her terms in that race, and that’s the key to her, as she’s a far better horse when she leads. She maps to find the top here, working across the field from the outside gate. If she gets some peace in front, she’ll take some running past at an each-way price.

Race 4 – 2. King Zeus
It’s back to the well with King Zeus, as I made a case for him at a price last start. The market came for him that day, but he could never get warm after being snicked back to near the tail early in the race. Glenn Stevenson opts for a 2kg claim with Jabez Johnstone taking the ride, and the first-up run of King Zeus suggests a return to the synthetic will be a positive. I’m happy to follow up, and I suspect he’ll be a double-figure price.
