SENTrack: Tasracing’s Friday best bets at Launceston (01/11)
Matt Reid • November 1st, 2024 12:53 pm

The Tasmanian Turf Club in Launceston will host its second meeting in three days. On Friday night, an eight-race card will be run.
The track raced very well on Wednesday with the rail +3m, and it moves out to +6m 1200m to WP- remainder +3m. The track was upgraded to a good 4 during the Wednesday program, and a similar rated surface is expected.
Best bet
Race 3 – 6. Cape Zoro
A $21 into $4.50 move for Cape Zoro at her first start for Adam Trinder suggested improvement was likely, and that was certainly the case when she ran second to Day Performer on a rain-affected track that was favouring leaders. She’s out to 1400m second-up, but that doesn’t look a negative given her only win came over 1350m in Devonport. Back to a class 1 represents a drop in grade, and I think she’ll be hard to beat.
Next best
Race 7 – 1. Thonatus
Thonatus went around over the odds first-up, just missing in a photo behind Mandate who won again a week later. The lightly raced 4YO was tested in Stakes company's last campaign but looks set to work through her grades this time in. The extra distance is a positive and she draws to do no work from the inside draw for Hannah Le Blanc.
Best value
Race 2 – 6. Halen
Keen to play each-way on Halen in a thin maiden that contains an odds on favourite in Mastretta. Halen has drawn poorly at both his runs as a 3YO, settling back and hitting the line to run into the placings. The scratchings in the second race mean his barrier isn’t as bad as it looks on paper, and an ability to settle closer in the run could be key to opening his winning account.
