SENTrack: Matt Reid's Sunday best bets at Launceston (02/02)
Matt Reid • February 2nd, 2025 12:00 pm

Sunday is Magic Millions Race Day in Launceston, where hot weather has seen the first of nine races brought forward to 10:43.
The forecast dictates that the track will likely firm up as the day progresses, and the rail is in the +4.5m position.
Best bet
Race 4 – 3. Mastretta
Classy 3YO filly who I think can reap the rewards of a mid-prep break while some of her counterparts went on to feature races. Her form around Azonto and Ms Tasmania looks very strong for Class 1 company, and she was asked for little effort in a Longford trial earlier in the week. May need a touch of luck from the draw with her racing pattern, but it looks like her race.
Next best
Race 5 – 1. In the Ocean
This is a nice return point for progressive 4YO In the Ocean who hasn’t raced since being a beaten favourite in this grade in late November. Jabez Johnstone did little wrong on that occasion, but the 4kg apprentice also has additional experience on his side now, which can only be a good thing. Loves the track, loves the distance and drawn to stalk the speed where his class can prevail late.
Best value
Race 7 – 8. Lontano
On a program where Zany Girl and Durazzo will be very short in the two main races, punters will be afforded the opportunity for good value in the last three races. Lontano is one I didn’t mind at a price in a wide-open race. He strikes a BM60 where, expectedly, his opposition has a lot of priors, and the lightly raced 4YO has a bit more upside. He went back from a wide draw last time and caught the eye hitting the line under his own steam. Likely to be good odds in a race that could easily throw up a rough result.
