SEN launches new cricket-meets-wrestling show: Stumps and Bumps
Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) is proud to announce the launch of a bold new podcast and radio show, Stumps and Bumps, hosted by beloved cricket commentator, Bharat Sundaresan, and wrestling icon, Eric Bischoff. The show brings together two seemingly different worlds - cricket and professional wrestling - through the lens of storytelling, nostalgia and current events.
The concept was born from a shared passion for narrative and character, with Sundaresan and Bischoff bonding over their mutual love for the drama and depth behind both sports. Sundaresan - a lifelong wrestling fan and respected cricket journalist - has recently stepped into the wrestling ring himself, while Bischoff - one of the most influential figures in wrestling history - is diving headfirst into the traditions and intricacies of cricket.
Together, they’ll explore the latest happenings in both codes, revisit iconic moments and uncover lesser-known stories that shaped both sports. With the Australian summer of cricket heating up and WWE making a historic visit to Australia this month, Stumps and Bumps arrives at the perfect time to capture fans across both communities.
“Like most good things in life, the concept of Stumps and Bumps was originally born while Eric and I shared an amazing curry last year,” Sundaresan said. “We couldn't come from two more distinct backgrounds but we are connected through our love for storytelling and focusing on the human stories behind the athletes and the wrestling characters. This is also my dream to bring the two worlds together, and turn more cricket fans into wrestling fans and vice versa, starting with my legendary co-host.”
“I used to watch Eric on TV as a little boy growing up in Bombay, India, and never did I dream of ever getting to meet him, forget having a meal with him or now sharing hosting duties for a show that we have worked on bringing to life on the back of our unique friendship and common interests, which now includes cricket. And to do it on SEN, who I have such a deep and genuine relationship with, makes it extra special.”
"I have always been drawn to anything that is different and unique, and that firstly explains how Bharat and I got along but also in terms of what intrigues me,” Bischoff added, “so, as our relationship developed, I realised that there was a great opportunity for the two of us to bring our worlds together, and create something the world has never seen; a cricket-wrestling show."
"I spent a couple of minutes in wrestling, and I've always been drawn to the storytelling aspect of what we do. I've also always connected with professional sport through the human stories that are told so beautifully about the athletes. And through Bharat I've learnt that it's those stories that make cricket such a fascinating sport and I can't wait to learn more about it."
SEN CEO, Craig Hutchison, said the show is a perfect fit for the network’s evolving content strategy.
“I’ve been a lifelong fan of both cricket and wrestling, and like so many others, I grew up watching Eric Bischoff redefine sports entertainment. Bharat is one of the most talented storytellers in Australian sport and an integral part of the SEN family. To bring these two worlds together in such a creative and entertaining way is a thrill for us, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it.”
