Saturday best bets from Luke & Taggart (09/08)
Cam Luke & David Taggart have your Saturday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a close look at Moonee Valley in a bid to find the family some winners.

MOONEE VALLEY
Race 3 | 6. Takeko
Is drawn to lead and hold fence which I think is a plus! Was decent first up when overrun late but here at the Moonee Valley 1200m is a nice second up setup. A drying track also works in his favour and as far as BM70’s go it lacks a little depth making him the best horse in the race! She is a better 1200m horse than 1000m and will prove it today!
Race 4 | 2. Midwest
Back to 1000m here is the biggest thing for this bloke! His last two have been ok. Two back in tougher race he was out of his depth at 1100m and ran out of puff down Flemington straight last start! Will be some speed, but he is drawn right outside Mornington Glory and I think fitness and small field will play a part. Loves the Moonee Valley 1000m and when able to control the race he is very very very hard to run down and I think that will happen today. Mornington Glory so well weighted and a G1 winner, will improve either way off this and is the one Mid has to deal with!
Race 6 | 11. Esha
Was brilliantly fast on debut in winning easily at Morphettville in a time never ever seen by a 2yo before and judging by her trials she has improved. With her ability to hit the ground running I expect Moonee Valley to suit her and the gate is perfect for the superstar jockey to go bang!! She’ll be short but $2.30 is a nice price for a girl who I think is unbeatable.
Race 8 | 7. Farhh Flung
The gate is a little sticky but blinkers back on I am assuming a lot of intent early I’m backing Jamie Melham to find a spot!! Speed is ok but outside of Private Jumbo there is no Vo Rogue. Quick back up I do like and last week was tougher. He has had a decent prep and is fit. Has won really well here before including over the mile and if he gets a little luck he will finally get that win this prep!
MORE PLACES PLAY
No Sydney means we can have a little extra fun at Moonee Valley. I have loved and use the ‘more places’ feature a lot over the last 18 months so I’m having a crack at every Melbourne race. Tune into SEN Track for full explanations.
MOONEE VALLEY
Race 1 | 6. Navy King (top four)
Will be on speed and is a lovely speed map. Two Sydney horses have class but questions. Navy King been needing the 2000m again and today works well.
Race 2 | 9. Roaring Engine (top four)
Decent prep forgetting Sydney two back when Heavy hated. Drawn nicely to get a trail behind Make It Sweet. Was good last start in tougher race and 2500m no issue in the world. Has won fourth up before! Drying track helps.
Race 3 | 6. Takeko (top three)
See above!
Race 4 | 2. Midwest (top two)
See above!
Race 5 | 7. Stoli Bolli (top three)
Easily the class horse in the race. Wasn’t far off them in the Coolmore in spring and was ok in only Summer run behind Private Harry. Little concern about speed map hence why top three and not win. Goes well first up and at Moonee Valley so if luck is there he should win but playing conservative.
Race 6 | 11. Esha (win)
See above!
Race 7 | 5. Sayedaty Sadaty (top three)
Class horse in race and in form. Will amble over from that gate and sit on speed and with the fitness I think can dial it up a little earlier than normal. Claim works and wil be hard to beat even though maybe needs a little further now. Don’t forget Relentless Voyager goes around here our Melbourne Cup bet. Won’t win but needs to run on well again although I doubt Moonee Valley will suit him.
Race 8 | 7. Farhh Flung (top three)
See above!
Race 9 | 2. Elouyou (top four)
Been poor last couple but excuses there in tougher races. Will speed map nicely and loves Moonee Valley. Think the 1200m works best and if we are alive going to the last all HELL will break loose!

MOONEE VALLEY
Race 3 | 6. Takeko
Led first up and was no match for the winner who sat off the speed and was too good for her in the handy Kiko. Draws pole and will get the run of the race.
Race 5 | 7. Stoli Bolli
Resumes and he just looks to be the best horse in the race. He raced against quality in most of his runs and this is a far cry from that. His two trials leading into this have been very good and he should be winning.
Race 6 | 11. Esha
Resumes after just her only run where she demolished her opponents in Adelaide back in May. Her trials have been first class and she just jump lead and win.Race 9 | 1. Apache Song
Is over the odds. She drops from a G3 where she never disgraced herself first up and she’s a much better galloper second up. Loves the Valley and gets a huge claim.
