Cam Luke & David Taggart have your Saturday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a close look at Morphettville, Bendigo & Hawkesbury in a bid to find the family some winners.
See their best bets below:👇
Cam Luke
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 4 | 7. Bargain Boy
This is easier than last start where he had to work in little bit early, he is drawn sticky but I don't see a huge amount of speed inside which I think gives him an advantage to slide across. He has another crack at the 1800m and that will help. The rain is the query if it comes and downgrades the track early as he is better on top of the ground but I doubt we will get enough before then. Star jockey on and if he gets that early luck he will show his class like he did two back.
Race 5 | 10. Tropical House
Resumed over the mile and was great behind Scandalize. Drawn perfectly to stalk the speed and do no work and Jamie Melham goes on. She has won second up before, track conditions won't hurt if rain hits and carries 1kg less than last start. She is short but she wins!
Race 6 | 1. Bankers Choice
I thought he was OK in the Mornington Cup where he had to try and come around them into the straight. He'll be able to slot in and find his groove when he likes to drop the head an relax like a horse who will need all of the 2500m this time out. Has to carry the weight but will hook out and get momentum. I have queries over the trip for Sea What I See and Sir Kingsford and I don’t for this bloke. He is fit a and ready to peak. Always runs well fourth up and expect the same today.
Race 7 | 6. Rohesia
Absolutely seems like the 1600m is what she needs and she gets it today. Was really strong through the line in her dominating win last start and expect a similar run in transit today. Bigger field will ensure some speed (More Than Hope/Oak Park) and this girl wont do any work mild field. She is a girl who relaxes well in the run and it ensures she can use that turn of foot late and beat these again!
Race 8 | 7. Amazake & 13. Strictly Business (each-way)
Amazake - never gets any luck in run and this time it was at the barrier draw but he is crying out for this trip! He will go back but has a great jockey in the saddle so I am confident he will find cover. Speed isn't overly obvious on paper but being a derby there will be organic speed and that will help this bloke. I contend he should have beaten Single Choice last start and he is single figures here today. He has been my long term play and if he gets luck I think he wins this!
Strictly Business - Probably not going as well as when she won the Oaks in the spring but she run last week wasn't as bad as it looks. Every time she went to build she got stopped by another horse. She clearly needs the 2500m and the week back up she enjoys like she did in the spring. Barrier one is a little tricky as she does need to build but if she has a smidge of luck she will be in the finish. I've backed both of these separately and also in a Same Race Multi Top 4 and Top 5. BENDIGO
Race 6 | 10. Duchess Zou
Got zero weight after the claim and will have a nice run in race behind the speed. Feels like she has been looking for the trip and gets it today. This is a little up in grade but in number only, not with strength of field. Has run well fourth up before and handles any rain if it comes, will be very hard to beat!
Race 9 | 5. Zahrann (each-way)
First time in Australia and has trialled up really well. Will need further but the speed is on here that will suit him late. Goes well first up and good track is where he is at his best! This is a good race today and this bloke will get better into his prep but his form in Europe in G1 company gives him a sniff today and he is over the odds and a great each way play!
HAWKESBURY
Race 4 | 10. Sacrify
Might need 2000m to show it's best but with the claim has no weight and there is no other leader. Can bowl along in front and make own luck. Was good first up when outsprinted a little by a nice horse. 1800m is a nice stepping stone and he will win a race this prep and today gets a set up to go very close.
Race 6 | 9. Karinska
Should have won last start when about to explode late. That from is good enough for this! She knocked on the G1 door in the spring and this level is her! Draw a little sticky but better than Skyhook and Regal Award got the Q's on his start. The 1400m sees her out and deserves to win a race like this and it does have a tail on it this race. She is going to be very hard to beat!
Race 8 | 5. Vivy Air
The form out of the Doncaster has stood up for horses back in the field and I expect it to be the same here. She has had a nice trial since and will be primed for this. Perfect gate so expect her to be closer than the past two starts. Always runs well over the 1600m and think she takes a mountain of beating today. My best at Hawkesbury today!
David Taggart
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 1 | 4. Straand Deal (BEST)
Was a beaten fav last start when stepped sharply up in trip and grade second up. Drops back in grade and he won third up last prep. Blinkers first time and draws pole to get every chance.
Race 5 | 1. Maracourt (value)
Backs up from last week and he won’t know himself dropping into this grade as it’s the easiest race he’s contested in close to a year. This is his pet trip, hasn’t missed a place in five third up runs and gets a claim. Well worth an each-way play.
BENDIGO
Race 5 | 6. Lady Jones
Stuck to her task first up and she will get a better run here in transit. Second up form is good and she’s wanting this trip. Has won here over the course and she can win this.
Race 7 | 2. Brave Design (value)
Resumes from 10 months off but does look ready to go off his trials. Showed plenty of ability as a 2yo contesting against the best winning a listed race and was less than three off Autumn Boy and Sheza Alibi. Draws soft and is worth a risk of an each-way play.
HAWKESBURY
Race 6 | 1. Skyhook
Won’t know himself in this as he drops from competing against the best and is the best horse in the race. Was three off Tempted last start and he’s wanting this trip, just has to overcome a bad gate.
Race 7 | 4. Oh Diamond Lil
Resumes and she has looked good at the trials. Yet to miss a hole first up in three runs and gets the services of Nash for the first time. Draws well to jump on the bunny and control the race.
