Cam Luke
CAULFIELD
Race 1 | 6. Lodbrok - Each-way
Has been only going so far this prep but am confident can improve today. Blinkers go on for first time this prep and the soft track doesn’t hurt! He has ran well fourth-up before and it’s a massive weight drop to 53.5kg, pretty much against the same horses! These stayers can mix their form, and I think he is over the odds at $15 and a nice each way play!
Race 4 | 10. Angel In Black - Top 4/5 or Each-way
Had zero luck last start at Kyneton and kept going late to just get beat. Stays at the 1200m which works and is drawn way better to stalk the speed of which there is plenty. Soft track not an issue. Trialled up decently and is due for a bunch of luck! Will run really well and I have backed her each way at $27 but you can use the Sportsbet More Places options here to win! Top 4 - $4.20 and Top 5 at $3.10 which I have taken the most. That’s nice odds for a filly showing promise, drawn nicely to beat half the field home!
Race 5 | 1. Different Gravy
This new race is suited perfectly to horses like this bloke. Maybe a tier below the G1 standard of the spring or just a little late in developing and the 2000m is perfect right now. Ridden by a jockey who can’t miss. He will have the perfect run in transit with a backside, soft track he has handled before and even though he has to give a little weight I just think he’s better than these, many of which he beat quite comfortably a few weeks back.
Race 7 | 3. Detonator Jack
Was pretty good at Flemington last start and with Poison Chalice they are most certainly the two horses to beat and both out of the same race. Won’t have any concerns with any chopped up ground, will come down the middle of the track late, not a huge amount of speed so Ethan Brown will need to ride him close enough to be able to strike but I do love him up to the 1800m. Hasn’t won for a little while but neither has PC and I think this bloke will win considering the big races he traditionally runs in i.e. the big dance two starts back. I think is the one to beat.
Race 8 | 10. Berkshire Breeze - Each-way
Has been okay this prep without really threatening but he does run in pretty good races. Finished behind Half Yours three back, was a little disappointing in the BC and then just got flushed out in the Mooney Valley Gold cup. Little freshen that includes a nice trail as well. Nice gate allows close to speed to strike. Damp track no concern and he is fit. Most certainly a nice each-way play at a minimum but him winning wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest!
ROSEHILL
Race 1 | 11. Jaipur Maison
Was huge on debut over 900m at Newcastle when got back. Don’t think that’ll happen. I expect her to be a little closer in the run and the tempo to suit her a little more. Collett sticks and that’s a good sign. The 1100m looks ominous based on debut. Going be hard to beat especially with race experience against many a debutant.
Race 4 | 5. Belle Detelle
Back to a couple of weeks ago at Newcastle and probably was a tad disappointing although you could make an excuse around the race shape, but I won’t, but I think this is easier. Good track is probably her best surface. She might stick a little closer to the front based on the nice gate and get run of the race. She’s ready to peak third-up and I think staying at the 1800m is smart.
Race 7 | 5. Zealously
In great form this prep was brilliant resuming beating Flying For Fun, who is the biggest challenge today. There is a huge amount of speed in this race so from the slightly tricky gate KM will need to use all his nous, but he will be prominent and right on speed. Up to 1100m no dramas, good track perfect, third-up 100% winning record. He will be mighty hard to beat coming off that group 2 place at Caulfield.
Race 9 | 5. Shangri La Spring
Draws gate (inside barrier) which he didn’t do in The GE which is 1 million times harder than this. Tim Clark takes the ride, will lead, fast track up to 2000m fourth-up going to be very hard to beat. Has trialled since, fitness zero issue considering the stable and is my best of the day!
