Sattler sees opportunity for Queensland if Grant is out of Origin 1

Scott Sattler believes Queensland can find a silver lining in Harry Grant’s hamstring injury that threatens to rule the star hooker out of the first State of Origin game.
The Melbourne Storm number 9 suffered a hamstring injury at training that Storm officials say will keep him out for two games, however, other reports suggest it could be a four-to-six-week injury which would potentially rule him out of Origin 1.
However, Sattler sees an opportunity for Queensland should Grant not be able to play.
“It’s not ideal at all when you lose one of your top three most important players in the team which is Harry Grant… but in saying that they are positions where Queensland have pretty good depth,” Sattler said on SEN 1170 Mornings.
“You want your defence looking at the dummy half first before looking at anything else and (Grant) definitely does that with how crafty he is but I think Ben Hunt slips straight into that position… and opens up for Tommy Dearden to come into that squad as the number 14.
“Queensland lose a lot but I also think they can gain a fair bit… because they had to find a way for Tom Dearden to come in somehow.
“Billy may err on the side of caution and say, especially because it's a hamstring injury, I’m not going to rush him in if he’s fit purely because of the injury itself.”
Sattler also thinks that the injury to Reece Walsh also won’t end Queensland’s chances at reclaiming the shield, with Kalyn Ponga his direct competition for the coveted fullback jersey.
Walsh suffered a PCL injury against the Warriors on Saturday which will rule him out for 4-6 weeks.
“I think Reece Walsh, the way the season’s playing out at the moment, as much as I’m a huge fan of his and I like the maturity he’s playing with… I think Kalyn’s probably a little bit ahead of him
“People may say hold on, the Newcastle Knights are legless at the moment when it comes to creating points but I think overall Kalyn would be a little bit ahead of Reece.”
Origin 1 is on May 28, just over five weeks away.
