Len Ikitau has claimed the John Eales Medal at the Rugby Australia awards ceremony, which took place on Friday Night.
It’s the first time that the 27-year-old has claimed Rugby Australia’s highest individual honour, which has capped off an incredible year for him.
Throughout last year’s Spring Tour, the British and Irish Lions series and the Rugby Championship, the centre has been instrumental in the Wallabies’ recent success, having formed a strong duo with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in the centres.
Some of those moments include his flick pass to Max Jorgenson, which set the 21-year-old free to beat England at Twickenham in the 84th minute, which saw him earn the nickname ‘Flickitau’ alongside his shake and bake to see him score in the Wallabies' demolition job of Wales in Cardiff.
Whilst he was not present at the awards night due to commitments with Premiership side Exeter, Ikitau was stoked to have won in a year that has been so enjoyable for him.
“It’s been an awesome journey,” he said to the media.
“This is probably one of the best years that I’ve enjoyed in the Wallabies jersey in terms of the way we’ve been playing, the way that we want to play.
“It’s just been exciting. Obviously, there’s been a few games where we’ve lost, but overall I’ve enjoyed my time this year.”
Other nominees for the medal included captain Harry Wilson and flanker Fraser McReight.
In other awards, Suaalii would claim the Rookie of the Year, Jorgenson received Try of the Year and Carlo Tizzano was named the Super Rugby Pacific Player of the Year.
And for the Wallaroos, Tabua Tuinakauvadra would be named as the Player of the Year.
The Wallabies are back in action next week when they take on Japan next Saturday in Tokyo.
