Reigning champions' 32-game unbeaten streak ends as the race for the title begins to heat up

Manchester City have lost their first game since the 6th December 2023 after suffering a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth away overnight.
The reigning champions were far from their best at the Vitality Stadium, as the cherries capitalised on City’s slow start to lead 1-0 inside 10 minutes.
Despite their efforts, City weren’t able to find an equaliser all game which lead to Evanilson scoring his third goal of the season to double Bournemouth’s lead after 64 minutes of play.
A brilliant Gvardiol header looked to have given the champions some hope in a late comeback, however Bournemouth were good enough to hold on and ultimately pick up their fourth win of the season.
It is also their second win against a top six team so far this season, with a 2-0 win against Arsenal in October being the other impressive win.
City can breath a sigh of relief however, as Arsenal dropped points in the premier league for the third game in a row.
Their 1-0 loss to Newcastle overnight marks their second loss for the season, with both losses coming in the last three league matches.
With Liverpool pulling off their come from behind victory over Brighton overnight, this means the Gunners’ title chances seemingly get more unlikely due to the tightness at the top of the premier league this season.
Wolverhampton and Ipswich were both only moments away from picking up their first victories of the season this week. Neither side could hold on against their opponents and both had to settle for draws.
Ipswich’s situation would’ve hurt more in comparison, as they couldn’t prevent an equaliser from Leicester City in the dying moments of the game whilst also being down to ten men.
The Wolves courageously made a come back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 with only 20 minutes left to play. But as the stats show, their league worst defence wasn’t able to hold on as Crystal Palace found a way to get out of the match with at least a point.
The third draw of the season for the Wolves saw them slide to the bottom of the table as Southampton were able to pick up their first victory against Everton on the same matchday.
Adam Armstrong’s 85th minute strike was the difference between the two sides, with Everton left to rue their missed opportunities as they fall further towards the relegation zone of the premier league table.
And despite claiming a much needed 2-1 victory against Manchester United the week prior, West Ham couldn’t replicate the same performance against Nottingham Forrest away as they were belted 3-0.
This win for Forrest now sees them sit pretty in third position on the premier league table, with five of their ten games now being wins.
They’re currently on a three-game winning streak and they’ll look to continue that when they host Newcastle in their next league match.
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side will look to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace from the week prior as they take on Aston Villa in the early hours of Monday morning.
