Fletch: Don't deny Haas a $3m R360 move, let him go
Payne Haas has achieved everything possible in the NRL, he should take the multi-million dollar offer from R360, according to Bryan Fletcher.
The five-time Dally M Prop of the year and six-time winner of the Paul Morgan Medal is reportedly close to inking a deal with rebel league R360 believed to be worth in excess of $3 million a season.
The move would be lifechanging for Haas but could initiate a domino effect through the NRL that would forever transform the recruitment system with another 10 big names linked with the global league.
NRL boss Peter V’landys has already said any player or agent signing with the R360 faces a 10 year ban from the Australian competition, but Fletcher is adamant it won’t stand up in court and that Haas should push on.
“He’s won six BnF, he can’t do any more,” Fletcher said on SEN’s Run Home. “He (Karl Morris) has to speak in the best interests of the Broncos.
“The best thing for Payne Haas would be to go.
“The family situation, it’s always been his focus. I don’t begrudge him.
“He has won everything in the game now, a comp for Brisbane and good luck to him.
“The Broncos’ return on investment for him; huge.
“He could come back, PVL says no, but there’s no court in the world that clears that.”
The deal believed to be on the table from R360 dwarfs Hass’ current contract at the Broncos.
Currently on just over $1 million a year, the 25-year-old is already the club’s highest paid player in history but the club would not be able to compete with what is on offer.
R360 have also been linked to Ryan Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Reece Walsh and a host of other names.
They are expected to reveal their first signings in the coming weeks.
