Premier League title race takes another twist as a last minute winner shakes up the top six
Despite a disappointing 3-2 loss to Fulham away from home, Liverpool have been given another chance this week to edge closer to the Premier League title after Arsenal dropped points to Brentford overnight.
It’s the second game in a row that the Gunners have failed to walk away with the three points after Brentford gallantly held on to take a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
The Bees only managed to have three shots on goal for the whole game, whilst the Gunners had 14 attempts to try and put the visiting side away.
It’s a stat line that reads ugly for Mikel Arteta’s men, who are now sitting 10 points behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
There are only six games left in the Premier League season as well for the north London side, with one of them being against Liverpool at Anfield in what now looms to be a title determining match up.
Nottingham Forest have given themselves a tough task in qualifying for European football as they went down to Everton at home.
The Toffee’s, who have had a mini resurgence since David Moyes arrived back at the club, managed to find a winner the 90th minute thanks to a ill-timed error from Brazilian defender Murillo which saw Abdoulaye Doucouré score just his third goal for the season.
The win for Everton sees them climb to 14th on the table, whilst Forest remains vulnerable in third after Manchester City dispatched Crystal Place at home overnight.
The reigning champions went down early to the Eagles, conceding the first two goals of the game inside the first quarter of an hour.
A Kevin De Bruyne free kick, plus an Omar Marmoush volley, ignited the Citizens back in form, squaring the ledger before half time.
This also kickstarted a run of momentum that the visitors couldn’t contain in the second half, as City went on to pile on three more goals and run away 5-2 winners.
Aston Villa left it late to take the three points away from their trip to Southampton.
A Ollie Watkins inspired dominance saw them eventually capture the 3-0 victory, which could’ve been more if Marco Asensio put away his penalties.
The Spaniard was denied twice from the spot in the second half, with former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale brilliantly saving both penalties.
And Brighton have continued their frustrating run of disappointing results after they couldn’t get over the struggling Leicester City at home.
The Sea Gulls scored both of their goals from the penalty spot, which were both cancelled out from the Foxes shortly after to ensure the result would be a 2-2 draw.
It’s the fourth game in a row now that Brighton have not managed to walk away with a win, as they hold on to their spot in ninth ever so dearly with Bournemouth breathing down their neck three points behind.
The Cherries will look to leapfrog Brighton on Tuesday morning when they take on Fulham at home.
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side go in favourites this week, as they look to make it two wins on the trot when they travel to Wolverhampton to take on the Wolves on Sunday night.
Chelsea can climb as high as fourth if they’re able to get the job done against Ipswich at home on Sunday night, whilst Liverpool will look to heave the pressure back on Arsenal when they host West Ham at the same time.
And Newcastle can get themselves well and truly back into European calculations. A win against Manchester United will do that for them, as they host the struggling Red Devils on Monday morning.
