Is the Premier League title Arsenal’s to lose?
Arsenal have buffered their lead atop the Premier League table, claiming a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace overnight to round off a perfect week for the North London side.
Behind an Eberechi Eze first-half goal against his former club, the Gunners held firm defensively as they have all season, keeping their fifth clean sheet in a row to clock their seventh straight win across all competitions.
Unbeknownst to them, Manchester City’s coinciding fixture with Aston Villa would fall firmly in Arsenal’s favour, as a Matty Cash strike within 20 minutes saw the second-placed Cityzens lose 1-0 at Villa Park, falling to fifth place - six points behind the league leaders through nine games.
Having conceded just three Premier League goals this season, Arsenal’s 22 points sees the side four points ahead of the over-performing Bournemouth, while Tottenham (17 points) and newly-promoted Sunderland (17 points) make up the remainder of the top four.
Beyond City’s faltering form, Liverpool have now lost four straight league games, falling in five of their last six across all competitions as Arne Slot suffers from second season blues. A 3-2 loss to Brentford on Saturday (Sunday morning local time) sees last season's champions in seventh place, far from the heights of 2024/25.
Comfortably the most reliable team across the opening fixtures, the 2025/26 season could present as Arsenal’s best chance to return to the pinnacle of English football.
Following three straight second-placed finishes, the Gunners may have finally found clear air on top of the table, and as expressed by Manchester United legend Gary Neville, they won’t need to do much more than they have in previous years to break the drought.

"This has got to be their year," Neville said on The Gary Neville Podcast.
"I've had Arsenal to win the league the last three years – this is the fourth.
"They aren't necessarily miles better than last year but they are repeating levels of consistency and that's all they are going to have to do this year to win the league. They aren't going to have to get 100 points, they are not going to have to go and get even 90 points.
"They are going to have to get to the levels that they can achieve – high 80s to mid-80s will win them this title, and they can do that.”
Having kept six clean sheets in nine games this season, Arsenal have not conceded more than one goal in a game since Liverpool in Matchweek 36 of the 2024/25 season - a reliable base anchoring stable results.
"Arsenal are very reliable, you can trust them. The way in which they defend is fantastic - they don't concede goals," Neville added.
"They’ve not got a sensational forward, but they've got a battering ram who is as honest as the day is long and that can work for them.
"This is your title, Arsenal. I've never really felt that sure before, and it's so early in the season, but it really is. That's not being overconfident for them, it’s not placing undue pressure on them, they must feel it themselves. This is the moment Arsenal can get back on top.
"The chance and the opportunity is there for them; they have got to go and take it."
Across the league, all three newly-promoted teams claimed victory in Matchweek 9, as Leeds (2-1 v West Ham), Sunderland (2-1 v Chelsea) and Burnley (3-2 v Wolves) bolster their bids to stifle the trend of Championship returns.
Manchester United's 4-2 victory over Brighton marks their third straight in the Premier League, while Sean Dyche's maiden league game with Nottingham Forest ended in a 2-0 loss to second-placed Bournemouth.
