PL: Chelsea wonderkid sends Liverpool packing as Arsenal claims top spot
Arsenal have leapt to the top of the Premier League table as Liverpool’s title defence takes yet another hit just seven games into the 2025/26 season.

Bournemouth and Fulham kicked off the weekend fixtures, with the two sides deadlocked through the first 70 minutes before Fulham’s Samuel Chukwueze played in Ryan Sessegnon, smartly dinking keeper Djordje Petrovic to open the scoring at Vitality Stadium.
The lead lasted just eight minutes before the Cherries fired back, as Antoine Semenyo carried on his stellar start to the season with a brilliant solo effort to equalise.
Justin Kluivert tucked away a superb strike from distance to hand Bournemouth the advantage at the 83rd minute mark, before a counterattack at the death handed Semenyo his second to secure a 3-1 victory, locking the side in the top five following game week seven.
Leeds looked an early threat within their fixture against Tottenham, hitting the post within the first six minutes and creating several chances inside 10 at Elland Road.
But it was Tottenham that would open the scoring, as Frenchman Mathys Tel found the top corner in the 23rd minute with a sensational strike from just inside 18 yards.
Leeds continued to threaten, as a Brenden Aaronson attempt forced keeper Guglielmo Vicario to parry directly into the path of Noah Okafor, tapping in the equaliser after 34 minutes.
Both sides continued to attack, until winger Mohammed Kudus found the bottom corner just before 60 minutes to give Spurs the lead, and while Leeds’ 16 attempts left them far from short of opportunities, Thomas Frank’s men travel home with the three points and a spot within the top four.
Manchester United took on a flying Sunderland outfit at Old Trafford, with a mound of pressure on manager Ruben Amorim following yet another poor start to the season.
Just eight minutes into the contest, Bryan Mbeumo swung a shallow ball into Mason Mount, who expertly took down the ball on his left foot before finishing on the half volley on his right, capitalising on a half-chance to give United a 1-0 advantage early in the contest.
Benjamin Sesko tapped home a loose ball from a corner to double United’s advantage, and while the Black Cats had a number of attempts at goal, Manchester United’s debut keeper Senne Lammens stood tall, making several saves to secure a much-needed 2-0 win.
Arsenal hosted West Ham in what proved to be a regulation contest, claiming a 2-0 win in what was a rather flattering scoreline.
The Gunners piled on 21 shots against the struggling Irons, testing West Ham’s defence time and time again at the Emirates as Declan Rice capitalised off an Alphonse Areola save to open the scoring in the 38th minute.
Arsenal continued to dominate the ball, owning 68 per cent of possession within the contest. Bukayo Saka was bundled down within the 18-yard box, finishing his own work from the spot to take a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Unbeknownst to them, Arsenal’s win would see them at the top of the Premier League table at the end of game week seven, as Chelsea stole victory from Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Moises Caicedo opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a cracking solo effort from range, holding their advantage until the 63rd minute as a beautiful Alexander Isak touch set up Cody Gakpo within the six-yard box, punching home the equaliser.
Chelsea continued to threaten late into the game before Enzo Fernandez slipped through Marc Cucurella down the left-hand side, swinging a ball across the face of goal for Brazilian wonderkid Estevao to tuck home in the 95th minute.
18-year-old Estevao’s first Chelsea goal would hand the undermanned Blues an incredible 2-1 victory over the defending champions, while Liverpool slip to second after losing their third straight contest in all competitions.
Still to come, Aston Villa take on Burnley, Everton host Crystal Palace, Ange’s Forest travel to Newcastle and the winless Wolves play Brighton in the early fixtures, leading into Brentford versus Manchester City to close game week seven.
